Packed column analysis is frequently done when high-efficiency separations are not needed or when gases are analyzed by gas-solid chromatography. Purged packed inlets for GC are simple in both design and use. Few parameters need to be set, and all carrier gas flow flushes through the inlet into the column in the standard configuration.
